Create a clear-desk landing zone
Keep a tray for loose paperwork and a designated place for stationery. At the end of the day, return those items to their place so agreed desk surfaces are accessible for cleaning. Keep confidential documents secure. Cleaning staff should not have to guess which papers can be moved or thrown away.
Use a two-minute meeting-room reset
After a meeting, remove cups, wipe up small everyday spills appropriately, return chairs and collect any rubbish. Leave cables arranged safely. The next team starts with a usable room, and scheduled cleaning can focus on the surfaces and floors rather than clearing abandoned belongings.
Keep the kitchen simple
Put suitable washing-up supplies where people can find them and agree who deals with the dishwasher and shared fridge. Label food where helpful, clear out items under an agreed policy, and avoid leaving dishes in the sink for the next person. A short written kitchen checklist is often easier to follow than a long email reminder.
Clean technology the right way
Follow the device manufacturer’s instructions for keyboards, screens, phones and headsets. Power down or disconnect equipment where those instructions require it. Do not spray liquid straight onto electronics or allow it into openings. A product suitable for a desk may be unsuitable for a screen coating.
Keep floors out of the shortcut routine
Avoid quick, unplanned wet mopping while people are moving through a busy area. Report spills promptly and follow your workplace’s cleaning arrangements. Keep routes clear while work is in progress, and account for drying time. A wet-floor sign by itself does not make a wet floor safe.
Write down what happens between visits
Agree the difference between staff housekeeping and the cleaning contractor’s checklist. Who reports a spill? Who replenishes supplies? Who arranges a deeper clean? One named contact and a short issue log make it easier to solve problems before they become repeated frustrations.
One thing to remember
The best office cleaning hack is a clear routine: accessible desks, reset shared rooms, an agreed kitchen policy and one contact for cleaning issues.
